Both Barack Obama and John McCain are heavily courting Hispanic voters, a key demographic in swing states like Florida, New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado. That means a heavy dose of Spanish-language advertising. But some political consultants who specialize in targeting Hispanic voters say focusing solely on Spanish-language media leaves other effective means of targeting on the table.

With increasing numbers of voters ditching landline phones and using only cell-phones, some pollsters worry that surveys could miss the mark in 2008 if interviewers don't call cell-phone users. One of the biggest concerns: The vast majority of cell-phone only users are aged 18-34, a key demographic for presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

In 1992, convinced that Reform Party candidate Ross Perot could prove a political asset, both President George H.W. Bush and Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton were eager to include the Texas billionaire in the presidential debates. This year, with former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr polling at 6 percent nationally, the Libertarian nominee is set to make his own push for inclusion in this year's three official debates.

The incumbent candidate in Mississippi's 1st district congressional race is a pro-gun, pro-life, fiscal conservative-and he's the Democrat. Therein lies the challenge for Republican Greg Davis, who is running again this fall in a re-match of the most highly publicized special election that the GOP lost this spring. His first defeat, says Davis, provides a valuable strategic lesson.

With some 30 Republican retirements in the House this year and a generally hostile political climate, the GOP's down-ballot prospects look fairly grim. Still, the party sees potential bright spots in a handful of traditional Republican districts that Democrats flipped two years ago, several amid scandal.
